Module Description
This module will provide an understanding of the factors affecting wind turbine efficiency and energy production. This module covers both theoretical and practical aspects, providing the target group with the necessary tools to evaluate and compare wind energy systems in real-world, the potential of wind energy in Palestine, as well as the future prospects of wind energy in Palestine to achieve sustainable development.
The module begins with an discussion about wind energy as a sustainable and clean generation resource. It examines the fundamental principles of wind energy generation. The role of wind energy in reducing carbon emissions, and its integration into modern energy grids will be explored in this module.
This module also covers the approaches to estimate the wind turbine performance using power curves and how the power curves will be utilized to predict energy production, assess system efficiency, and determine the viability of wind projects under different wind conditions especially for the case of Palestine. The various factors affecting the wind turbine performance will be considered in this analysis (Wind Speed and Atmospheric Conditions; Turbine Blade Design and Aerodynamics; Mechanical and Electrical Components, and others).
This module also provides a comparison between the various wind turbine designs (Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs); Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs), as well as the Innovative Technologies).
This module also focuses on how external and design-related factors influence overall energy production of the wind energy system. The challenges facing the investment in wind energy in Palestine and its future prospects will be also analyzed.
The final part of this module explores the environmental impacts and the mechanical and the structural mechanical challenges associated with wind energy systems.
